Winter Movie Slump
It’s that time of year again. The snow has fallen and become muddy slush on the ground, the sun is trying to peak through the grey clouds to give us a sign of hope, and we yearn for the feel of a warm breeze through our hair. As for movies…well…. its’ the dreaded winter slump. The box office has slowed and the streaming options are abysmal. This week we decided to make the best of it and embrace the slump! It’s time to discuss the most inferior films of the year and check out a few movies that won’t be invited to the Oscars!
Knock at the Cabin & “Director’s Trademarks”
The quietude of family solace, broken by a rapping at the door. A most unsettling sound. Will these uninvited guests be harbingers of good fortune, or do they come with tidings dark and terrible? As this is in M. Night Shyamalan’s new film, a wise person would wager the latter. In this week’s episode we discuss “Knock at the Cabin”. And for Our Week In Entertainment, we are looking at film directors and their trademarks.
Babylon & “Life of the Party”
Won’t you join us on a journey into the bowels of hell? Oh, wait, no, sorry, we’re actually just in LA in the 1920s as silent films make way for the talkies! That’s right, we finally watched Damien Chazelle’s Babylon; the period epic that surprisingly flopped during this award’s season. Curious as to why? Well, we’ve got some guesses, as well as all sorts of thoughts on this god forsaken three hour film. For Our Week In Entertainment we’re keeping the party going! Well…sort of…the theme is “Life of the Party” and we have some interesting interpretations on that one. Enjoy!
Most Anticipated Films of 2023
As the Oscars approach it feels like we are beginning to bookend films from 2022. And the best way to do that is to discuss our most Anticipated films of 2023! That’s right it’s our 6th Annual Most Anticipated Episode! We are grabbing our magic 8 ball and peering into this exciting new year in film!
M3GAN & A Friend Indeed
This week we take a glimpse into the maybe not-so-distant future, where children’s toys have become infused with artificial intelligence, offering a personalized, interactive friendship that the teddy bears of yore simply can’t muster. So what does that future toy look like? Well, in M3GAN, the new horror comedy film taking Tik Tok by storm, it looks like an immaculately styled, creepy dancing, Gen Z, murderous demon child! Then, for Our Week In Entertainment, we watch films for the theme, “A Friend In Need, Is A Friend Indeed”
DOUBLE FEATURE: The Whale & White Noise
We're in awards season so, naturally, we have another double feature for you. This week we bring you two films about mortality! Brendan Fraser plays a 600 pound man quickly approaching death in Darren Aronofsky's The Whale and Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig are a couple grappling with their fear of death in Noah Baumbach's White Noise.
DOUBLE FEATURE: I Wanna Dance with Somebody & Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Clocks strikes upon the hour and the sun begins to fade. Still enough time to figure out this puzzle box that’s come my way. I’ve done alright up to now, Benoit and Whitney will show me how. As 2022 draws to a close, Ms Sinclair, Helen and Edison were reflecting on their year in film and looking back on the many movies we featured on Talk Movie To Me. We’ve talked about films featuring djinns, badass female warriors, bros-to-boyfriends, and Batman! And with the theatres opening their doors again, this year was a triumphant return to that magical place we all love, the cinema.
